PUBLIX CHARITIES' HARVEST DAYS AT NASHVILLE ZOO

(NASHVILLE, TENN)

Take a break from the 21st century at Nashville Zoo's Harvest Days, Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1 - 5 p.m. The annual fall celebration transports visitors back to the days of yore before giraffes and elephants roamed the Zoo's property and our Grassmere Historic Home and Farm were in their prime.

Taking place on the Historic Home lawn, Harvest Days is a celebration of life at harvest time in the 1800s.  Blacksmiths, weavers, quilters, and other 19th century artisans will demonstrate the era's trades throughout the weekend. Guests can try their hand at the pen and ink station, card sheep's wool, press fresh apple cider and add a square to our 2009 Crazy Quilt. There will be a Civil War display, animal presentations, storytelling and several musical groups performing each day.

Tours of the Historic Croft Home, built in 1810, will be conducted by costumed interpreters, and garden tours and demonstrations will be led by the Davidson County Master Gardeners.

Harvest Days is included with Zoo admission. Harvest Days is presented by Publix Super Markets Charities and sponsored by Golden Flake, The Coca-Cola Company and Nashville Parent.

Nashville Zoo is accredited by the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums, assuring the highest standards of animal care and husbandry.  The Zoo is a non-profit organization located at 3777 Nolensville Road and is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.  The mission of the Nashville Zoo is to inspire a culture of understanding and discovery of our natural world through conservation, innovation and leadership.  For more information about Nashville Zoo, call 615-833-1534 or visit our website at www.nashvillezoo.org.
